James Douglas "J. D." Scott, 69 of Moneta, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, October 21, 1945 in Bedford County, a son of the late Prentiss Glenwood Scott, Sr. and Lucille Frances Robertson Scott . He was also preceded in death by a sister, Florence S. Lambeth. He was a longtime cattle farmer and owner & operator of Scott's Strawberry Farm. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard having during the Vietnam conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Miller Ferguson-Scott; a brother, Prentiss G. Scott, Jr. & friend, Carolyn Webber of Bedford; sisters, Irene S. Bays of Moneta, Shirley C. Manning of Hayesville, NC; dear friends, Fred Waltz & wife, Vicky; brothers-in-law, R. L. Miller, Jerry Miller & wife, Terry, Smith Fariss; sister-in-law, Bonnie Overstreet & husband, Larry; extended family, Mark "CoCo" Thomason, Carola "CiCi" Musche, Franziska "Cisca" Eanes and his best companions Rocky & Annie Marie.
The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Blue Ridge Cancer Care, 2013 Jefferson Street, # 2, Roanoke, VA 24014.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Bryan Sheehan & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post # 16 will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
