Obituary of James Douglas Scott

James Douglas "J. D." Scott, 69 of Moneta, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, October 21, 1945 in Bedford County, a son of the late Prentiss Glenwood Scott, Sr. and Lucille Frances Robertson Scott . He was also preceded in death by a sister, Florence S. Lambeth. He was a longtime cattle farmer and owner & operator of Scott's Strawberry Farm. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard having during the Vietnam conflict. He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Miller Ferguson-Scott; a brother, Prentiss G. Scott, Jr. & friend, Carolyn Webber of Bedford; sisters, Irene S. Bays of Moneta, Shirley C. Manning of Hayesville, NC; dear friends, Fred Waltz & wife, Vicky; brothers-in-law, R. L. Miller, Jerry Miller & wife, Terry, Smith Fariss; sister-in-law, Bonnie Overstreet & husband, Larry; extended family, Mark "CoCo" Thomason, Carola "CiCi" Musche, Franziska "Cisca" Eanes and his best companions Rocky & Annie Marie. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Blue Ridge Cancer Care, 2013 Jefferson Street, # 2, Roanoke, VA 24014. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Bryan Sheehan & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post # 16 will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
