Obituary of Shirley Hunter Sweet

Shirley Hunter Sweet, 75, of Moneta was called home by her Lord on June 30, 2015. Shirley was born on August 29, 1939 and is survived by her son, Dale Asbury of Roanoke, son, Carson Sweet of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Holly Sweet of Roanoke, in addition to her beloved grandchildren, Melinda Lake Asbury and Ella Meadow Niday as well as her nieces and nephew. She has been reunited with many loved ones, including her parents, Ruby Meador Hunter and Lindsey Flakewood Hunter, brother, James Lindsey Hunter and son, James Lindsey Asbury. Shirley leaves wonderful memories on this Earth with her family and friends, many from her music career that spanned over 60 years. Shirley enjoyed a professional career as Mercury country music recording artist in the 1960s, with Billboard hits such as ‘Billy Christian’, and toured with national artists including Porter Wagoner, Red Foley and Hank Williams, Jr. Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff of Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they provided Shirley the past few years. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11 AM at Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Moneta. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
