Chase was a funny, personable guy when he was a 7th grader in my classroom, which is really saying something for a kid that age. I know he probably never loved English, but he did his work and he was always polite and respectful. He comes from a strong, beautiful family, and my heart breaks for them. Nothing can ever make sense of this tragedy, but I pray his family and friends will somehow be able to experience "the Peace which exceeds all our comprehension" (Phillipians 4:7).

I am a substitute teacher for Bedford County Schools and I had Chase in a number of my classes when I worked at Staunton River High. Even someone in my peripheral capacity feels a great sense of loss when hearing of such things happening to a student who was so very well liked by everyone. We have lost a number of students over the past several years, and I knew each of them personally.
I pray that the family and everyone in that wonderful school may be comforted now by that peace which passes all understanding.
