Obituary of Vito Joseph Lisa

Vito Joseph Lisa, 88 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born October 19, 1926 in Inwood, Long Island, NY, a son of the late Pasquale Lisa and Mamie Carlo Lisa. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael K. Haynes. He was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation, was a U. S. Navy veteran – and served from 9-28-44 until 11-26-49 at the Norfolk Naval Base. He served on the Asiatic. Pacific Iwo Jima Okinawa on “The Antigone” during World War II and was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, Liberty Lodge # 95, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #109 Elks Lodge # 2844 and a past member of the Bedford Moose Lodge # 1897. He is survived by his wife, Doris Overstreet Lisa; three daughters, Helen L. Hardy, Marie L. Haynes, Nancy L. Owen & husband, John III, all of Bedford; son, Joseph D. Lisa & wife, Theresa of Spring City, TN; a brother, Patrick Lisa & wife, Nancy of Antioch, CA; five grandchildren, David N. Hardy, Meagan H. Mehaffey & husband, Chris, all of Lynchburg, Alison O. Long & husband, Chris, Dr. John M. Owen IV & wife, Elizabeth all of Forest, W. Ryan Lisa & wife, Lauren of Athens, TN; four great grandchildren, Gracin L. Long, Sophia L. Long, Lilah Grace Mehaffey, Campbell E. Owen. The family request that those wishing to make memorials consider Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523 or Bedford Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24523. A funeral service will be held at the graveside at Virginia Memorial Park on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10 AM with Dr. David Henderson officiating. Military rites will be given by American Legion Post # 16 and Masonic rites by Liberty Masonic Lodge # 95. There is no visitation.
