Obituary of Gary Lee Hill

Gary Lee Hill, 65 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born February 20, 1950 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Floyd Franklin Hill and Flossie Robey Hill. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Blue Ridge area and retired from Bedford Memorial Hospital as an x-ray technologist. During his life, he was actively involved with the Bedford Moose Lodge # 1897, the Westwood Hunt Club in Bath County, Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Center, Rural Letter Carriers Association and was a current member of Bedford Baptist Church. He is survived by his love and fiance of ten years, Lettie Brewer; a daughter, Jennifer Hill Greer (Bill) of Accomac, Virginia; a son, Charles “Chip” Hill (Jessica) of Salt Lake City, Utah; a step-daughter, Denise Kennedy Sims (Jason) of Bedford; his former wife & mother of his children, Ann D. Mason of Bedford; three granddaughters, Virginia, Maggie & Bekah Greer; a grandson, William David Greer; two granddogs Sugar and Bunny Hill; two step-grandsons, Carl & Louis Sims; two brothers, F. Alan Hill (Vicki) of Amherst, Michael W. Hill (Lynne) of Lynchburg, and numerous loving and close extended family members. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060, American Cancer Society, 2050 Langhorne Road, Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16th at 1pm at Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David Henderson and Rev. Bill Greer, officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 15th, from 4pm - 7pm at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and other times at the home.
