Hester Phillips Bishop, 84 of Farmville, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at The Woodland in Farmville. She was born on Saturday, March 14, 1931 in Frankin County, a daughter of the late John Dewey Mills and Silvia Irene Wright Mills. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Bishop.
She was retired from the Bedford County School System and was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, John Allen Witt of Danville, David Todd Phillips & wife, Chris, Steven Wade Phillips & wife, Julie all of Farmville; her daughter, Shirley Ann Witt & husband, Herman of Bedford; a sister, Virginia Gillespie of Floyd County; eleven grandchildren, Anthony Dooley, John Witt, Dawn Crockett, Curtis Witt, Chris Witt, Brian Phillips, Corie Phillips, Cassidy Phillips, Tyler Phillips, Coleman Phillips, Katie Raby and seven grandchildren.
The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3234 Timber Ridge Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 PM until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
