Obituary of John Henry Cheek

John Henry Cheek, 88 of Bedford, left this world behind to walk with the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2015. He was born on Thursday, June 9, 1927 in Bedford County, a son of the late Clarence Cheek and Hettie Sims Cheek. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lyle C. Cheek. John was a Korean War veteran, a family man and a avid farmer of black angus cattle. He was a former employee of Hampton Loons Weaving Mill and later joined his best friend, J. J. Morgan Construction Company and together they built many of the houses and buildings that stand in Bedford today. He now joins his lifelong friend, J. J. Morgan in heaven. Well known and loved within the Bedford community, friends would frequently spot John at Fork's Country Restaurant or driving around in his signature cherry red Ford pickup truck or on his John Deere tractor. He was always surrounded by friends and family and always had you laughing at his corny jokes and kind hearted nature. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Paige Fulton Cheek; his daughter, Tara; his son, Mark & his wife, Teri; his granddaughter, Morgan & her husband, Will; and his great-granddaughters, Parkyr & Avery. He is also survived by his sisters, Regina C. Gross, Mildred Atkins & her husband, Nelson; and his brothers Bobby Cheek & his wife, Shirley & C T. Cheek. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 2 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. William Clark & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
