Albert Peter (Pete) Jensen, 84, of Bedford, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, March 17, 1926 in Norfolk, VA, a son of the late Albert P. Jensen and Erma Titsel Jensen Mott . He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Maymie McGinnis Jensen, his brothers, James Andrew Jensen and Kenneth Leroy Jensen, and a special friend, Red Crouch. He retired from Sam Moore Furniture after 39 years of service and was proud to have worked for 3 sams, Uncle Sam, Sam Moore and Sam Walton. He was a 50 year Mason, 53 year member of the Elks and a member of; Liberty Masonic Lodge #95, Bedford Elks Lodge #2844, Bedford Host Lions Club, and Main Street United Methodist Church . He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran having served on LCS 61 from 1944-1946 having fought in the Battle of Okinawa with a loyal dedicated crew that bonded like brothers forever. He was a gradute of the VPI Class of 1950. Surviving are his daughters; Brenda Jensen Thompson & husband Ted of Taylors, SC, and Elizabeth "Betty" Jensen of Forest, his grandchildren; Jeremy Peter Thompson, Rebecca Thompson Lacy, Lisa Wohlford, Matthew Lawrence, his great-grandchildren; Jonas Thompson, Trent Thompson, Maddie Lacy, Hannah Lacy, his brother Ed Mott, III & wife Priscilla of Springfield, VA, and his sister Phyllis Klick of Long Beach, CA. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider donations to either the National Assoc. of U.S.S. LCS, C/O Dennis Steinberger Sec., 7345 W. Lakeside Drive, Littleton, CO 80125 or Main St. United Methodist Church, 212 E. Main St., Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Les Trail and Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin VA at 2 PM. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
