Obituary of Thomas Rucker Bowyer, Sr.

On January 4, 2016 Thomas R. Bowyer, "Tom" Bowyer, Sr., 81 of Bedford, went to be with our Lord and Savior. He was born on Saturday, December 15, 1934 in Bedford County, a son of the late Francis M. Bowyer, Sr. and Mary Letha Creasey Bowyer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. "Moochie" Bowyer, Jr. & a brother, Frances M. Bowyer, Jr. He retired from B & W with 40+ years of service as a machinist where he was very proud of his work. Tom loved hunting and was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and a supporter of the second amendment. One of his greatest pleasures was hunting deer & bear with his sons on Onion Mountain, a place he loved and hunted on for many years. His sons were his greatest blessing in his life. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son, Rodney W, Bowyer & Sabrina. He was known as "Pop" to his grandchildren whom he loved and was very proud of, Melissa & James Dooley, Seth & Alexander Dooley, Trinity A. King, Chase Tatum; his brothers, Bill Bowyer, Bernard Bowyer, Kenneth Bowyer & wife, Thelma, his furry friends, Fluffpuss, Scrambled Eggs, his special boy, Nikk, his special friend & hunting buddy, Jack Briggs as well as numerous nieces & nephews. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Nicopolis United Methodist Church, 1158 Nicopolis Road, Bedford, VA 24523 Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at Nicopolis United Methodist Church with Rev. Rusty Craig & Rev. Jerry Viemeister officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Thursday and the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
