Obituary of Frances Lacy Leftwich Rardin

Frances Lacy Leftwich Rardin, loving wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother, age 94 of Bedford, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at her residence. She was born on Tuesday, February 22, 1921 in Bedford County, VA, a daughter of the late Reeves McKinley Lacy, Sr. and Myrtle Cordelia Swain Lacy. She was also preceded in death by her 1st husband, Royal Granville Leftwich, her 2nd husband, Roy Robert Rardin as well as her sisters & brothers, Lucy Pearl Lacy, Donald Lacy, Loxley Lacy, Reeves McKinley Lacy, Jr., Ellen Skinnell, Gertrude Witt, Lois Atkinson, Robert Lacy, Madeline Overstreet & Edith King. Frances was a talented homemaker with an attention to detail. She was an excellent cook who will always be remembered for her chocolate pie. Her tremendous love for her grandchildren and a determination to take care of her family kept her going for many years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church . She is survived by her daughters, Joan L. Carey & husband, Jeff of Cocoa, FL, Anne L. White of Richmond, Cathy L. Viar & husband, John of Evington; her grandchildren, Sylvia K. Luman, James G. Kimery, Michael R. Kimery, C. David Carey, Brandon S. Carey, Travis W. Grim, Kramer T. Grim, Lacey E. Viar, John B. Viar III, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and her sister, Mary L. Overstreet. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Bedford Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 161, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 10:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Ray Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
