Carolyn Wildman Johnson Witt, 77 of Evington, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born on Sunday, June 26, 1938 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John E. Wildman and Doris Wood Wildman Hudson.
She had a love for her family second only to her Lord. She enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it was with her grandchildren at the beach, gatherings with her children, or day trips with her sisters. She never missed any events involving her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting, and playing the piano. She was a member of Mentow Baptist Church and was very involved with her church. She also worked for many years at Craddock & Terry and in later years was the assistant Librarian at Altavista High School.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Louis R. Witt; her children, Debra Witt Dooley & husband, Kyle of Bedford, Lisa Johnson Martin & husband, Steve of Lynchburg, Jeff Johnson of Silver Springs, MD; her grandchildren, Joshua Martin of Lynchburg, Jacob Martin & wife, Cianne of Bozeman, MT; Joy Martin Landa & husband, Sam of Lynchburg; her sisters, Yvonne Nichols & husband, Jimmie of Huddleston, Charlotte Nichols & husband, Charlie of Evington, Phyllis Warren & husband, Gene of Amelia as well as many nieces & nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901, the Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or Mentow Baptist Church, 3282 Mentow Drive, Huddleston, VA 24104.
A service honoring her life will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Mentow Baptist Church with Kyle Dooley, Jacob Martin & Steve Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 pm until the time of the service at Mentow Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
