Obituary of William Ray Anderson

William Ray Anderson, 76 of Bedford, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1939 in Bedford County, the son of the late Thomas Anderson, Sr. and Mary Ruth Wade Anderson. He was retired from Lyn Claire Apparel as a supervisor and was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church. He was a great gardner and everyone on Route 460 could attest to that. He was a loving husband, father & grandfather and a friend to all who met him. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Shirley Reynolds Anderson; his sons, Michael Ray Anderson of Bedford, Jody Lane Anderson & wife, Lisa of Greenville, SC; his daughter, Sara Beth Anderson Martin & husband, Allen, Jr. of Forest; his grandchildren, Kenneth Chase Anderson, Ashlyn Elizabeth Anderson, Tyler Hayes Martin, Alanis Whitney Martin; his brothers, Thomas Anderson, Jr. & wife, Carrie of Thaxton, David Anderson & wife, Sandy of Bedford, Charles Anderson & wife, Sharon of Rocky Mount; his sister, Mary Ann Chaffin & husband, Wayne of Bedford; special sisters-in-law, Tishya Goad & Debbie Carpenter and brothers-in-law, Mickey Reynolds & Arnold Reynolds as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Randy Krantz & Rev. Jeane Dunkum officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
