Flossie Jones Ayers of Huddleston, died peacefully at the age of 98 on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Monday, February 11, 1918 in Franklin County, a daughter of the late James William Jones and Vaughnie McBride Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie G. Ayers, a daughter, Diane Meador, her brothers, Guy, Lorenza, Nelson, Ray, Gordo and Ford Jones and her sister, Clara Brown. She was retired from Rubatex and was a member of Staunton Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Norma A. Mitchell & husband, Lewis of Moneta, Brenda A. Daniel & husband, Bobby of Bedford; her sons, Grady G. Ayers & wife, Christine of Bedford, Dennis M. Ayers & wife, Beth of Gay, GA; her son-in-law, Barry Meador; her sister-in-law, Louise Jones of Moneta; twelve grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell & wife, Pernille; Kerry Mitchell, Todd Daniel & wife, Gina; Tad Daniel & wife, Krista; Tamara Davenport & husband, Steve, Trista Robertson & husband, Mark, Timothy Ayers & friend, Brandy, Dana Colorado & friend, Tommy, Mindy Gentry & husband, Billy, Michael Meador & wife, Vanessa, Shane Ayers & wife, Joy, Shaun Ayers & wife, Suzanne; sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews & friends. The family would like to thank the Bedford County Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Staunton Baptist Church, 15267 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at Staunton Baptist Church with Rev. Grant Harbridge & Dr. Frank Schmitt officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
