Obituary of Audrey Gerald Dooley

Audrey Gerald Dooley, 88, of Bedford went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was born on Saturday, April 9, 1927, in Bedford County, a son of the late John and Carrie Dooley. He was also preceded in death by his son, John C. Dooley, brothers, James (Marie), Otis (Lucille), and Lee (Sarah), and a sister, Edna (Henry). Audrey was a WWII Veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy. He retired after many years of service with the Commonwealth of Virginia and spent his retirement years farming, serving the Lord, and caring for his family and friends. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where he served many years as Sunday School Director and Deacon. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Gladys G. Dooley; a daughter Lynn Saul (John); a son, Kyle Dooley (Debra); and a daughter-in-law, Brenda C. Dooley; grandchildren, Sean, Carrie, Kathryn, Reid, Audra and Jarret; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gayle McGeorge (Ken); many nieces and nephews and special friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford with the Rev. Wayne Sellars and the Rev. Jimmy Dooley officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 PM preceding the service. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
