James T. "J.T." Hogan, Sr., 85 of Huddleston, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sunday, June 29, 1930 in Bedford County, a son of the late Ira Cornelius Hogan and Berta Mae Swain Hogan. He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Mark Hogan.
He was retired from Norfolk Southern as an assistant foreman and was one of the last living workers from the Virginian Railway. He was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, the Huddleston Ruritan Club and Mentow Masonic Lodge # 180.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna Wooldridge Hogan; his sons, Ira Joseph Hogan & fiance, Christie, James Thomas Hogan, Jr., & wife, Melanie, all of Huddleston, Kenneth Wayne Hogan & wife, Bonnie of Troutville; his brother, Edwin Leroy Hogan of Altavista as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Huddleston Fire Department, 5377 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104 or Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 2 PM at the graveside at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Murphy & Rev. B. Sung officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 PM until the time of the service at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
