Helen Smallwood Radford, 91 of Bedford, VA passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sunday, July 3, 1919 in Bedford County, VA, a daughter of the late Glenn J. Smallwood and Deborah Carter Smallwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Harrison Radford. She was owner & operator of Radfords' Bakery, was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was also a member of Bedford Baptist Church. Surviving is her daughter, Brenda Sargent & husband, Joe of Goode; two granddaughters, Robin Morris & husband, Herb of Columbia, MD, Annette King & fiance, Phil of Williamsport, PA; a grandson, Brian Sargent & wife, Michele of Forest Hill, MD, seven great grandchildren, Brittany, Sabrina, Joey, Josh, Taylor, Joseph, Abi, and one great great grandson, Amiri; three sisters, Mildred Daniel & husband, Floyd of Lynchburg, Frances Rumpf, Edith Witt & husband, James, all of Bedford; as well as many nieces & nephews. Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Dr. David Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
