Obituary of Rickey Alfred Martin

Rickey Alfred Martin, 59 of Altavista, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born on Monday, January 7, 1957 in Roanoke, a son of the late Frank Moorman Martin and Naomi Joyce Farley Martin.
Ricky attended church as a child with his mother at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. He enjoyed playing music and cleaning cars. Ricky taught himself to play the guitar but says he got his talent from his parents, both of whom played multiple instruments. He was a monthly supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, believing that children should not have cancer and that they do good work.
He is survived by his brother, Randall Frank Martin.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in his memory are asked to consider St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
There will be a visitation beginning at 2 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston and a funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
