Obituary of Lois Hasselbaum Francis
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois Francis of Lynchburg, Virginia, died September 3, 2016 after a long illness.
Surviving her are niece, Karen Nuzzo (James Jones), nephew, James Nuzzo (Mary), three grand nephews, one grand niece and a special friend, Dick Richardson.
The second daughter of Alice Emma Fliegner and Charles Hasselbaum, she was born May 6, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island. A graduate of Mt Pleasant High School and of Bryant College, she was married Air Force officer David Francis. An early career woman she rose through the ranks of EG&G Sealol to become Comptroller and was one of the few female executives in the Cranston, R.I. Company. Following her divorce she invited her newly widowed sister, Alice Nuzzo and her two children to live with her, opening her home and life unexpectedly to children. She adored mid-century modern architecture and furniture, jazz, her lime green Kaman Ghia, growing plants, needlecraft, knitting and introspection. Following retirement she moved to Ocala, Florida for 24 years. As her health began to fail she moved into assisted living in Lynchburg to be closer to her niece. Gratitude is extended to Good Shepherd Hospice and the loving staff of Heritage Green for their kindness and care. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Bedford.
