Kathryn Irene Baker Stephenson, 95, of Bedford, VA and formerly of Pittsfield and Jacksonville, IL, died September 19, 2016 in the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born December 31, 1920 in Pike County, IL a daughter of the late Leslie H. Baker and Mary Anna Powell Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ray B. (Tom) Stephenson, Jr.; a son, Roger W. Stephenson; brothers, Leslie Baker, Jr. and Paul W. Baker and an infant grandson.
Kathryn graduated from Griggsville High School and Passavant School of Practical Nursing. She was a retired LPN of Passavant Area Hospital. She was a member of First Christian Church of Jacksonville.
Surviving are her daughters, Carol Stephenson, Mesquite, TX and Barbara (L.T.) Skinnell, Bedford, VA; daughter-in-law, Veronica Stephenson, Mesquite, TX; grandchildren, Jackie (John) Foster, Ketra (Rob) Hancock, Tim Stephenson of Texas and Bryan Skinnell, Will (Carrie) Skinnell, Sandra (William) Martin of VA; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn Ward of Pittsfield.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 24, at 2 PM in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 AM until Noon at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family request anyone wishing to do a memorial to do a good deed for someone else.
Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
