Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Bates Leftwich, 95 of Huddleston, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Monday, April 19, 1915 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Claude Franklin Bates and Georgia Myrtle Paggans Bates. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Letcher Ralph Leftwich and two sons, Jimmy Leftwich and Dennis Leftwich. She was a retired nurses aid at Bedford Memorial Hospital and was a member of Huddleston United Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughters, Frances L. Woodford & husband, Sherril; Dianne L. Austin & husband, Sherman, all of Huddleston; a son, Randy Leftwich of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. David Bayse officiating. Interment will follow in Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
