Obituary of Mary Kathleen Whitworth Byrd

Mary Kathleen Whitworth Byrd, 96 of Moneta, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Franklin Health & Rehab. She was born on Monday, May 3, 1920 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Harvey Lee Whitworth and Nannie Millicent Mitchell Whitworth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Homer Byrd & her granddaughter, Leigh Ann Blankenship. She was retired from Moneta Dress Factory and was a member of Radford Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Blankenship & husband, Hubert of Moneta, Wanda Byrd of Moneta; her grandsons, Denny Blankenship & wife, Amanda, Kelly Blankenship & wife, Rachel; her granddaughters, Nikki Blankenship Warren, Ashley Keesee & friend, Keith. The family would like to give special thanks to Sharon Parker and also Franklin Health & Rehab where Kathleen stayed for seven years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Vernon DeLong & Rev. Kelvin Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Byrd Family Cemetery at Radford Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and other times at the home of Nancy Blankenship.
