Edith Smallwood Witt, 80 of Bedford, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017. She was born on Monday, August 10, 1936 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Glenn Smallwood and Deborah Wright Smallwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Bennett Witt, Sr.
She was retired from Bedford Memorial Hospital where she was the Home Health Administrator and was a member of Bedford Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, James B. Witt, Jr. & wife, Michele, Wendell Allen Witt & wife, Susan all of Bedford; her grandchildren, James Bartels (Sarah), Kimberly Catley (Daniel), Alan Witt (Lindsay), Carter Witt (Alaina Graber), Sarah Witt Janse (Zaan); her great-grandchildren, Jameson Cole Bartels, Levi Austin Bartels, Blake Bartels, Nathan Catley; sisters, Frances Rumpf of Bedford, Mildred Daniel of Lynchburg.
The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider Bedford Christian Ministries, 217 W. Washington Street, Bedford, VA 24523
The family will receive friends beginning at 2 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the chapel with Dr. David Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery.
