Richard Robert Rice, 89 of Huddleston, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Friday, January 9, 1931 in Edison, NJ, a son of the late William Austin Rice and Mary Jane Nunn Rice. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Rice.
He was a Heavy equipment operator with Local #825, and was a member of the Elks Lodge #2180 in Jamesburg, NJ.
He is survived by his wife, Noreen Roberts Rice; his sons, Richard Rice, Jim Rice, Raymond Rice, Russell Rice, Frederick Rice, Ronald Rice; his daughters, Noreen Rice, Linda Wendell, Sandy Soden; his brother, Frank Rice as well as 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Palestine Baptist Church, 9244 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104 Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Patmos United Methodist Church Cemetery at 10 AM on Monday, August 10, 2020 with Pastor Brandon Pickett officiating. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
