James Darden May, 92 of Forest, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021. He was born on Monday, February 18, 1929 in Salem, VA, a son of the late Everett Charles May and Willie Reynolds May. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Frank May and George May; sisters, Arlene Witt and Violet Jenkins. He was a retired self-employed brick mason. He was a Veteran of the US Army, a member of Terrace View Baptist Church of Forest, Lynchburg Moose Lodge #1727, American Legion Post #16 and Meadow Creek Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Iris Wood May, a special sister-in-law, Linda Hammack and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Centra Hospice for the care they provided during his illness. For those wishing to make memorials consider a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Brian Taylor, Rev. Wayne Murphy and Pastor William Clarke officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Bedford.
