Back in the good old days 60’s , my parents had a camping lot at Smith Mtn Lake and Hubert and his family were our neighbors. During that summer, Hubert would take us out in his boat. One day he asks me if I could water ski. I never had the opportunity to ,so Hubert taught me to ski that day. We all had so much fun with Hubert around. Few years later, my husband rented farm land down the road from Hubert and Roselle. I would visit with them . They were a lovely couple . We would see Hubert on the Peaks working . He always had a special place in his heart for animals ; he took in strays and gave them a home. We will surely miss you Hubert RIP my friend .

Hubert was a special individual and a important member of the Parkway family at the Peaks of Otter. I so enjoyed working with Hubert and getting to spend time with him. He would always stop at the office on the way to the Johnson Farm if he saw my patrol car in the drive. Even when I left the Peaks for my new duty station at Rocky Knob, Hubert made a point to come and see me. Thankful that I had the opportunity to know Hubert and call him my friend. Hubert is one of those people you are thankful God put in your life.

My great uncle Hubert to me was my papa(Ernest) mini twin but they were totally different. Hubert was a jokester and him I laughed at each other’s stories. I referred to him as pool shark cause back in the day I heard he was awesome at it. Rest high on that mountain Hubert. Love and prayers To my family & Cindy May God comfort you with love and healing for the future.

Mr Hubert was one of the kindest sweetest fellow you would ever want to meet. His stories his willing to share and teach was wonderful. Having known him for years and my girls grew up with him hanging around their Dad. This treasure of a man will be sorely missed by many. My heart breaks for his family. Sending wishes and prayers for peace and strength. Nora Sellick

Hubert was a true friend and to quote from a recent conversation with one of his admirers from the peaks maintenance division of his character, “A Legend.”
He took on life’s struggles with vigor and resolve in an exemplary manner to all of us. His stories and company will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on in our retelling his renditions of “near death experiences” and quotable quotes! Our hearts go out to Cindy and family
