My grandmother, Marie Kendrick Thompson, was an incredibly kind, gentle, and caring soul with a twinkle in her eye and a witty sense of humor. Even in her later years, when much of her memory seemed to have faded, a wink, smile, or laugh were never far off. She was also an incredible cook and often expressed her love through serving food for her family and loved ones. Some of my most fond memories are of she and my grandfather Clyde fixing me my favorite breakfast of bacon-egg-and-cheese buns and apple biscuits each morning, of Grandma’s amazing pound cake she made for birthdays, holidays, and other occasions, and of the delicious green beans that she often served at family gatherings – the best ones in the world as far as I was concerned. In looking back at these memories, I see that it was not just the food itself, but the love behind it that made it so fulfilling. In addition to being an excellent cook, my Grandma was also a wonderful storyteller and I have many warm memories of her stories about life in the country as a young girl.
I feel deeply fortunate to have had such a wonderful grandmother and I will miss her dearly. I will always be inspired by her example of love, humor, and service.

Teresa, Kathy and Greg you were so blessed to have Marie as your Mama. I wish I could be with you as you celebrate her life. There are so many positive adjectives you will hear to describe your dear Mama. You know them because you got to witness most of her life.
I enjoyed visits to your parents home giving me many fond memories, Here’s one: Your dad had an amazing vegetable garden but it was your Mama that turned them into delicious food!

My deepest condolences to all the family & friends of Marie Thompson. My Madison college friend, Teresa, took me to her Bedford family home when we were young. Marie was such a lovely, kind, open-hearted woman. She welcomed everyone with a beautiful smile. She was intelligent, lively, and encouraging of our youthful plans and dreams. I always felt like part of the family in her home.
