Obituary of Marie Kendrick Thompson
Marie Kendrick Thompson, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the age of 89 years. She was born Edna Marie Kendrick in Huddleston on March 7, 1933 to Carlton Edward Kendrick and Addie Mayhew Kendrick. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Joseph Clyde Thompson, her brother, Winston Kendrick, Sr., her sister, Claudine Preston and her nephews, Winston Kendrick, Jr., Bill Kendrick, Jimmie Preston and Buck Preston.
Marie was the valedictorian of the Huddleston High School Class of 1951 and subsequently worked as a secretary for the Lane Company in Altavista. Later she worked for twenty-six years for the Bedford County Commissioner of the Revenue. After she retired in 1995 she became active in the UMW Circle of Friends at Main Street United Methodist Church and served in the Altar Guild. She was sweet & kind, a good and loyal friend and the best wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by all!
Marie is survived by her daughters, Teresa Selove (David) of Centreville and Kathy Ramyar (Kamran) of Mint Hill, NC; her son, Greg Thompson of Bedford; her grandson, Ryan Selove of Chantilly as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
The family thanks the caring staff of Cardinal Senior Living, Oakwood Health and Rehab, the Bedford County Nursing Home and Centra Hospice for taking care of our mom in her final years.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the chapel with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
