Obituary of Charles Cornelius Goodman

Charles Cornelius Goodman, 86, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born April 28, 1936 to William Henry and Christine Niday Goodman who proceeded him as well as his brother, Eddie Herman "Chick" Goodman; sister, Barbara N. Ramsey and his precious son, George William "Skip" Goodman.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School, where he ran track and played football, being recognized as the outstanding linesman in 1953. He entered VPI after high school. Shortly after that he married the love of his life, Betty Reid. This union produced four children, Skip, Theresa, Susan and Tracey.

Charles loved the outdoors. He walked the fields of Virginia quail hunting with his beloved dogs, Duke and Dan. He harvested deer in Va., pheasant in Kansas, bear and moose in Maine, caribou and bear in Canada and enjoyed a trip to Alaska coming home empty handed.

Charles and his wife enjoyed a photo safari to Kenya and South Africa where he was able to photograph hippos, lions, rhinos, leopards, giraffes, huge herds of zebras, wildebeest and Tommy gazelles in the Masa Mara, elephants in Amboseli Park at the foot of Mt.Kilimanjaro. They also cruised to many Caribbean islands.

Charles leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 68 years, Betty, his three daughters, Theresa Kubik (Bev), Susan Epperly (Albert) and Tracey Goodman. Ten grandchildren, Byron Kubik (Kristi), Jarom Kubik (Meribelle), Staci Kubik, Logan Kubik (Dana), Codi McConkie (Sam), Joseph Epperly (Kelly), Will Epperly (Ally), Chuck McGuire, Mike McGuire (Meagan) and Dani Rae (Tyler). 17 great grandchildren - Connor, Kylene & Caleb Kubik; Merritt, Daxton & Peyton Kubik; Henry, Charlotte & Louis McConkie; Zeke Epperly; Kaden & Toryn McGuire; Annabelle, Ronan & Finleigh McGuire and Bailey & Riley. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will meet with friends at Updike Funeral Home from 5-8 Friday evening, March 31st.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 1st at 4:00 at Bedrock Community Church with internment at Virginia Memorial Park immediately following.
