Obituary of William Ray Minter
William “Ray” Minter of Moneta Virginia passed away November 9, 2023, after reaching the age of 83.
Ray was a dedicated family man, farmer, and member of his community. Ray was born in Bedford, Virginia on October 7, 1940, to Hattie Creasey and Garrison Minter of Moneta Virginia. As a young boy Ray developed a love of family and farming working on the family farm in Moneta. In 1963 Ray met and married the love of his life, Rose Marie Creasey of Body Camp, developing a life together that spanned more than 60 years. Ray and Rosie were blessed with 2 children, Joy Marie and William Ray, Junior (deceased) with multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Along with his love for farming, Ray was a fixture on the roads around Bedford County, working for VDOT for over 30 years. He was also born into and a staple in his church, Diamond Hill Baptist serving in various leadership roles over the years in including Deacon and in later years Honorary Deacon and elder.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Garrison Minter and his beloved son, William Ray Minter, Junior.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie Minter; daughter, Joy Marie Barlow (Brian Barlow); sister, Louise Adams; grandchildren, Clinton Ray Minter, Ciara Christian Newman (Mathew) and Abbey Rose Barlow; great grandchildren, Paisley Rayne Minter, Kellie Christian Newman and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
A special recognition to neighbors, John Martin (Jeanette Martin) and the Martin family. John has been considered a family member since birth, showing love and
support to Ray and Rosie. In recent years John, bolstered by his wife and children, expanded that love and support.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Butterworth and Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. Family support and viewing will be from 11:30 – 1:00. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
