Obituary of Herbert Raymond Brandt

Herbert  R. Brandt, 81 of  Huddleston, VA and formerly of North Plainfield, NJ, passed away, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at  Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born on Tuesday, April 28, 1942 in Plainfield, NJ, a son of the late Erwin Brandt and Alice Fransesco Brandt .  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Campbell Brandt and brothers, Erwin A. Brandt, George Brandt and Robert Brandt.  

He was a Firefighter with the North Plainfield Fire Department  starting in 1964, where he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1975, promoted to Captain in 1978, promoted to acting Chief from 1981 - 82 and retiring as Captain in 1989.  Herbert was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of the Red Red and River Gun Club in NJ,  he loved gardening, cultivating a large garden each year and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4344, and the Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge #2346.

He is survived by his son, Lawrence Brandt (Jennifer); daughter, Karen Rink (Leighland); grandchildren, Kaitlin, Matthew, Kyle, Emma.  

The family will hold a visitation for family and friends from 2 until 4 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Calvary Chapel in Middlesex, NJ. 

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
