Obituary of William Hayes Willis

William Hayes Willis, 75, of Forest, VA passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home.  He

was born on January 5, 1949, in Johnson City, Tennessee, the son of the late Alonza Hayes Willis and Willie Margaret McConnell Willis.  He was a graduate of Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.  Hayes enlisted in the Tennessee National Guard.

 

He was a dedicated employee for 25 years at Lynchburg Foundry Intermet Archer Creek, and then went on to retire from Kroger in Forest.  He took great joy in being present for local school activities and sports in support of his children and grandchildren throughout his life.

 

Hayes is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen Cheek Willis and his sons, Mark Christopher Willis & wife Jacquie of Forest, and Michael Justin Willis & partner Lynsi Montgomery of Forest, his grandchildren, Halen, Ryan, and Jordan Willis.  He is also survived by his aunt Ruth McConnell of Johnson City, TN and cousins, Patricia McConnell Norton & husband, Dana of Greenville, TN and Tom McConnell & wife, Tina of Knoxville, TN.

The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford on Friday, June 14, 2024, from

6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Morgans Baptist Church, Moneta, VA with Reverend Wayne Lanham officiating.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
