Obituary of Lentford Ruff

Lentford Lee Ruff, 82 of Thaxton, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on Monday, November 16, 1931 in Bedford County, a son of the late Junie Reves Ruff and Olie May Robertson Ruff . He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Freda R. Ruff. He loved bluegrass music & playing the guitar. He enjoying cutting comics out of the newspaper to show everyone he talked to, he was well liked in the community and never met a stranger. Surviving is his daughter, Sandra Ruff Wilcher of Salem; three sisters, Lois Overstreet of Thaxton, Nancy Overstreet of Forest, Peggy Nester of Bedford; two brothers, Richard Ruff of Forest, Cecil "C. B." Ruff of Bedford; two grandchildren, Daryl L. Wilcher of Jacksonville, FL, Lindsay E. Hoke of Roanoke whom he adored and spoke highly of; as well as two great-grandchildren, Aiden Harmon & Camden Hoke and many special nieces & nephews that he cared for dearly. Dad, PawPaw, "Chico" you were taken from us way too soon, we love you more than you ever knew. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Peaks Presbyterian Church & Community Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday after 3 PM and the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
