Mr. Ayers was a great teacher. I was in his class in the late 70's and always loved learning about history in his class. I have often thought about him through the years. He always encouraged us and made us want to know more. He made history come alive, the civil war, missing treasures and searching fields for arrowheads. (Even now I can't help but look through the dirt when I walk through a plowed field to see if I see any arrowheads) . My thoughts and prayers go to the family.

I am so sorry to here about the passing of Gerald. He was a good friend and especially when he use to be my parent's next door neighbor many years ago (1970's) in Stone Mountain. My parents thought a lot of him, however, my parents have passed on.
Rest in peace. I'll always remember Gerald from the good ole times of the 70's!

Whenever asked for my "secret password question" of "favorite teacher", without hesitation Mr Ayers was my answer. What an amazing and passionate teacher he was. May he rest easily in peace and may his family, friends and students remember him as I do, healthy and full of joy. B

So many things to say about Gerald. When he taught at SRHS he was always in the middle of any mischief! My fondest memory was the day he dressed in a toga to teach us Roman History. You definitely never knew what the day would bring in his classroom. In later years he was a great friend and he will be missed by many.

I was very saddened when I heard the news that Mr. Ayers had passed. He was a great teacher and a special person. He was fun to be around and you always learned a lot from him. Whether it was history or just about life in general. He always wanted his students to excel and was always available to help if you were having issues.

My entire childhood is filled with memories of us. How you cheered me on at my tee-ball games, the first time you took me to see the ocean, when I was teaching you how to swim in the new pool, or when I caught you eating "Santa's" cookies... you are always in every memory.
You may not have been my father by blood, but you were the closest thing I ever had to a Dad. That's what matters most. Thank you for being that man.
I'm sure you are flying high in Heaven.
With all of my love,
Emma-Lee "Ayers Supply"

So sorry for the loss of such a unique man. My first encounter with him was when I was 9 years old and attending Body Camp Elementary. I was sent to the "big hall" (meaning 4th-7th grade) to get something from Gerald..maybe attendance card. Anyway, being the joker her was, he teased me quite a bit and had me in tears by the time I left his room, by telling me he had nails for breakfast. Fast forward 6 years and I had him as a Workd History teacher. He never forgot making me cry that day! The last time I saw him was at a class reunion 6 years ago that he crashed with RT Morris! He reminded me of the nail incident! Of all the many students he had over the years, it amazed me how he could remember one little incident! I know you will hear many stories from students, but he truly was an amazing teacher and I hope that he is resting comfortably now, where diabetes can no longer wreak havoc. Rest in peace!

Thank you God for taking him home and once again making him whole. Our loss is Heaven's gain!! Until we meet again special friend !

I've known Gerald all my life. I had the pleasure of reconnecting with him last year when I fit him glasses. We talked about years gone by and the terrible fire. You could see the pain of that fire in his eyes. We talked about his health because he had appointments that evening, but to those who know Gerald he was easy going and was in no rush. I walked him outside, it was a beautiful day and told him to take care of his self. We have lost a great man of Bedford and Moneta. Soar high with the Angels Gerald. < 3

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. My daughter wants to be a great teacher. I have lost count how many Mr. Ayers stories I have told her. His great lectures and reenactments made his class fun and easy to learn in. I had just moved down from New Jersey so imagine his delight to have a real live "Yankees to bark at. I can still see his "STOMP A SMURF FOR CHRISTMAS" door in my mind. My dad taught him karate and they became friends which gave me the opportunity to know him beyond what students see. He was always just so full of life's energy after all these years I am still heartbroken to hear of his passing.
Sincerely
Lori (Delmas) Iorio
