Obituary of Robert Franklin Arney

Robert Franklin Arney, 84 of Moneta, VA passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1930 in Wise County, VA, a son of the late Curtis Cecil Arney and Goldia Meade Arney. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Kiser, a brother, J. C. Arney & a grandson, Stephen Bower. He worked at Clinchfield Coal Mines, the Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio, the Radiology Department at St. Mary's Hospital in Norton, and retired from Bedford Memorial Hospital, Bedford, VA. He was also owner/operator of Arney's Amoco where he worked side by side with his wife Becky for twenty-five years. He was Past Master Mason of Coeburn Lodge No. 97. He enjoyed horses, working on the farm, traveling & sports. Working & making things with his hands were a delight for Bob. He was a caring & loving husband to his wife of forty-five years, Rebecca Saunders Arney. He is also survived by his daughters, Rosemary Ellis & husband, John of Abingdon, Donna Carothers & husband, Paul of Louisa; his sons, Robert Arney, Jr. & wife, Ann of Forest, Michael Arney & wife, Josie of Lynchburg; a brother, Sam Arney & wife, Sue of Wise; sisters, Loretta Meade of Wise, Jane Huffman & husband, Curtis of Hampton as well as four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. His dogs, Rocky & Annie will miss him greatly. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Breast Cancer Research Foundation, c/o Moneta Farm & Home Center, 11739 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA 24121. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Shelton Meade and Rev. Louie Meade officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 1 PM and the family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
