Obituary of Robert Lasley Morris

Robert Lasley Morris, 98 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015. He was born November 12, 1916 in Bluefield, WV a son of the late Francis Marion Morris and Edna Strawn Morris. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Mr. Morris was a member of Bedford Baptist Church for seventy-five years and of the Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 95 and the Royal Arch Chapter No. 60 for many years. He was a well known carpenter and builder in the Bedford area and enjoyed making furniture in his workshop. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II in the 10th Mountain Division in Europe. He is survived by his wife, Earlie Stanley Morris whom he married on November 25, 1937. Other survivors include three sons, James Morris & wife, Suzanne of Radford, Donald Morris & wife, Emily of Big Island, Lynn Morris & wife, Karla of Lynch Station; seven grandchildren, Andrew & Beth Morris of Katy, TX, Anthony & Jennifer Morris of Ashland, VA, John & Kim Morris of Bedford, Geoffrey Morris of Cincinnati, OH, David Morris of Big Island, Ruth Ann Irby of Lynch Station and Laura Morris of Lynch Station, seven great grandchildren, Eve & Matthew Morris of Katy, TX, Kellan, Rosie & Finn Morris of Ashland, VA, Tyler Morris of Bedford and Madelynn Morris of Cincinnati, OH. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Bonnie Francis for her support as his caretaker. Memorial contributions may be made to Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2 PM at Bedford Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 PM until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
