So sorry to hear about Paul and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. I'm one of the daughters of Otey & Louise Shelton, and live in Hampton, VA. Paul was one of the extended family that I saw every now and then, and I always remember him as a very gracious & friendly guy ... a big smile and always pleasant to talk with. I know my Uncle Billy (Garry Shelton) was very fond of Paul.
I will not be able to make it to the memorial but I certainly want you all to know we're thinking of you in this time of sorrow and loss, and wishing the very best to the family.

Paul was (is) always a man I highly respected in my life. He always treated me and other other members of my Boy Scout troop as part of his family. It never failed that when our paths crossed he would always ask how I was doing and how everything was going in my life. I consider myself to be a blessed person to have had Paul Shelton in my life as a young guy, and he will live on forever in my thoughts and my heart in my adult life.

Dear Janice and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Paul's death and want you and your family to know that we are thinking of you at this very sad time. My family remembers Paul with much fondness. Our son Ben remembers him as a kind man who taught him how to put shingles on Papa's (Billy Shelton) roof in Bedford. Our daughter Lauren remembers Paul as the fun guy who drove us all over Pittsylvania County one day looking for ancestral landmarks. He helped save her from a couple of very angry dogs when we stopped for a break at a country store. I remember Paul as a great friend and cousin to my dad, Garry "Billy" Shelton. It was such a joy for me to spend time with my dad and Paul as we planned many of those Gretna Shelton Family Reunions together. I heard many wonderful and funny stories about the time Paul went with Daddy and "those Methodists" from Ebenezer UMC to New Orleans to repair and rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina. I remember him as a very kind and loving Christian man who always seemed to have a smile on his face. I know he will be greatly missed here on earth, and I'm sure that my dad was waiting for him in heaven with open arms. Love and prayers to you and your entire family.

I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to Janice, Joy, Lisa and the remaining family on the loss of Paul. Paul was a pillar of our community and his legacy will live forever. I will never forget the wonderful times that we spent at Paul & Janice's home and how thoughtful it was of them to open their home up to Mackenzie during her teen years. I am so very sorry for your loss. I have always been and will always be amazed by Paul's revelation of Gods Grace. It is for this reason that I know he is not only in heaven with his Father but sits very close to his throne singing the worship song hes been waiting to sing his whole life. Paul Shelton was the type of man this world CAN'T do without. We desperately need men like Paul to be the shining Christian influence that can change this world for the better. The last time I spent with Paul was on a mission trip in our nstion's capital. Even in his 70's, he kept up with tons of kids at our mission site and all the kids and grownup kids that composed the team. Never once lost his cool; never once responded negatively. Paul Shelton was a giant of faith! Janice, you are in my prayers!

Prayers during this difficult, yet celebratory time. I will never forget the week spent in Abingdon with over 50 pastors from around the world and the excitement seen on Paul's (and Janice's) face as we learned together. Then a 6 mile bike ride up the Creeper Trail trying to keep up with Paul.
On returning home, Paul would remind me of our commitment we made to strive to put into action what we had learned. It truly was more than a learning experience, it was a transformational experience. May the spirit he had continue to live on in his family and friends.
